There are many myths about acne and they simply are not true.
•Eating chocolate and greasy foods DOES NOT cause acne
•Having dirty hair and skin DOES NOT cause acne
•Not only teenagers suffer from acne
•Deep acne scarring will not diminish over time. Tissue damage has been done and you cannot replace the tissue.

•Sun exposure does not clear your acne, it actually causes pre-mature aging and the potential for developing skin cancer.
Acne lesions take about 3 months to form and therefore, the clearing process can take up to 3 months.
Stress is the number one aggravator of acne. Stress stimulates the body’s adrenal glands which promotes oil product, leading to clogged pores.
Iodized salt is another acne aggravator. Use sea salt. Restaurant foods are usually high in salt. Dairy products, vitamin supplements, sports drinks, seaweed, fish, seafood, kelp tablets and fast food all contain high levels of iodized salt which aggravates acne.
Peanuts, peanut better, peanut oil, corn oil, wheat germ, shell fish, organ meets, sweetbreads, beef and liver all contain androgen hormones which aggravate acne. Switch to almond butter.
Hormone fluctuations aggravate acne.
Swimming in salt water pools and having water softeners in your home can aggravate acne.
Picking at your acne can cause scarring and actually push the debris in the pore deeper into the dermal layer.
Many fabric softeners and dryer sheets leave a waxy reside on your towels and bedding that can clog your pores.
Birth control pills that are low in estrogen can aggravate acne.

Icing cystic acne can be very beneficial. As Dr. James Fulton says, “it is The Secret Sauce.”
The cold slightly “damages” the top layers of the skin and increases penetration of topical products. Ice also creates an anti-inflammatory effect and helps reduce inflamed papules, nodules, and cysts. If you have a new nodule or cyst developing, apply ice directly on the top of the sore spot for several minutes. The next day there should be less redness and swelling. You should repeat this daily until the lesion subsides.
